About Uncorked and Curious
Let’s face it — wine has a language problem. At Uncorked and Curious, we believe that great wine shouldn’t require a dictionary, a sommelier or a second mortgage. This blog is here to make wine feel more human — less intimidating, more conversational, and maybe even a little fun.
Why Uncorked and Curious
After more than three decades in the wine industry, I came to a simple realisation: most wine lovers don’t speak the language of wine. They nod through tastings, choose bottles based on price or familiarity, and feel too embarrassed to ask what “terroir” really means.
Uncorked and Curious was born to change that — by translating wine speak into something more real. No snobbery. No gatekeeping. Just stories, plain English, and a few spirited debates.
Here’s What You Can Expect
- Wine Words Explained – A growing glossary of tricky terms (like carbonic maceration, skin contact, and Loire)
- Koos vs. Octavius – Character-driven debates that explore two very different views on wine
- Behind the Cellar Door – Personal takes, myth-busting, and conversational insights
Meet the Guy Behind the Corkscrew
Hi, I’m Eddie Turner. I’ve worked in the wine industry since 1984, from Boschendal to the iconic Vergelegen and Meerlust — but Uncorked and Curious is a new kind of adventure since retiring in 2024.
I wanted a space that combines real wine knowledge with a bit of mischief — which is why I occasionally let my alter ego (see below!) do the talking.

“The real me — mostly. Meet my alter ego, the voice of curiosity and reasoning.”
