Decanting wine jargon into plain English

Welcome to Uncorked & Curious

At Uncorked & Curious, we translate wine jargon into plain English (and maybe one day, plain French, Italian or German too). The Professor brings the science; the Maverick keeps it real. Together, we’re uncorking a simpler, more human way to appreciate wine. Expect other characters to join this duo along the way.

Octavius Pinot
The Professor

He reads wine journals for pleasure and corrects pronunciation for sport — but don’t let that intimidate you. The Professor’s mission is to help demystify wine’s complexity (and maybe impress you a little along the way). Whether he’s waxing lyrical on Loire or debating the virtues of tannin, he’s here to raise the level — and the glass

Koos Grenache
The Maverick

Boots dusty from the vineyard and stubborn in the cellar, Koos makes wine the way he lives — full throttle, rule-bending, and unapologetically expressive. He doesn’t waste time on labels or marketing fluff. For him, it’s about honest wine made in honest ways — wild ferment, minimal fuss, maximum soul. He believes wine should be felt, not dissected, and he’s your go-to for bold opinions, gut instincts, and the occasional “what were you thinking?” take on tradition.

Isabella
The Gypsey Scientist

Isabella Rioja is a whirlwind in a wine cellar — part maverick, part master technician. Born under the Spanish sun and raised among the gnarled old vines of Rioja, she carries Europe’s great vineyards in her passport: harvests in Bordeaux’s fabled Left Bank châteaux, fermentations in the Rhône’s rugged hillsides, and blending sessions in the cobblestoned bodegas of Priorat. She even flirted with Italian Barolo before chasing the Southern Hemisphere’s wild frontier.
